Guidelines for the Re-Commissioning of Coal-Fired Power Plant

ETD were approached by North American industry to produce guidelines for the essentials of re-commissioning coal-fired plant that has been laid-up.

These guidelines describe the more important items that need to be inspected and tested together with additional detail where there have been plant failures that have rendered other coal-fired plant inoperable for long periods awaiting spares or major repairs.  It is to be noted that this will become more of an issue as efficient coal-fired power plants become older and availability of critical parts becomes a major issue. Similarly, some failures have raised important safety issues. To avoid confusing the key stages of re-commissioning with practical detail, much of the latter has been compiled in Appendices.  The information presented should, of course, be used in conjunction with station operation manuals to ensure no conflicting approaches are made to the re-commissioning.
