ETD launches 'WELDLIFE' Group Sponsored Project for Industry - Avoidance of P91 Type IV failure in P91 and P92 Steels - Invitation to Participate and Attend Webinar
ETD IS HOSTING A WEBINAR ON 15 JANUARY 2015 at 16.00h (UK time) to present this GSP to potential Sponsors, present initial research results, answer questions, discuss costs and work schedule etc. If your organisation may be interested in participating then please contact us.
ETD Consulting ETD Consulting are pleased to launch another Group Sponsored Project (GSP) – “WELDLIFE” - for international industry sponsorship.
“Type IV” in-service creep cracking at weld heat-affected zones in leading power plant steels, such as P91 and P92, has often been considered to be a costly but unavoidable life-limiting problem. However, recent UK industrial and collaborative research projects indicate that by a) improving the heat treatment, and, b) altering the welding processes, the life of welded components can in fact be improved by a factor of the order of 2 to 3 times by measures that will slow down or prevent Type IV cracking. This should result in tremendous benefits for the steel producers, plant manufacturers, plant operators and welding companies alike.
The preliminary findings, exciting as they are, need to be proven in practical application and demonstrated through model component testing, long term stress rupture/ creep testing data generation, and detailed analyses for long term safe life prediction and assessment. This new GSP is aimed at achieving these objectives. It is encouraging that some of the industry partners involved in the preliminary projects have shown interest in being involved and contributing their knowledge base, experience and test materials.
The work programme and the indicative costs shown in the Project Outline are subject to discussion between the potential industry sponsors.
For this purpose ETD are organising a one hour webinar on Thursday 15 January at 1600 hours (UK time), which will also present the initial research results. Further information about the webinar will be sent to all those who show interest in this project.
The webinar will be followed, a few weeks later, by a project meeting in Leatherhead- Surrey (just south of London, about 40 minutes train journey from Victoria or Waterloo train stations). Those who cannot join in person will have the choice of joining by video conferencing.
We look forward to hearing from you.
What is a Group Sponsored Project (GSP)?
In response to the needs of the international industry, ETD Consulting regularly launches new Group Sponsored Projects for participation by organisations from around the world. The benefit of joining these GSPs, in which costs are shared, is that each participant gains the results of the whole project at a fraction of the full project cost. Read more about our GSPs here.
