ETD recently completed a project on MIC (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion) Analysis of Stainless Steel Pipe Samples for a Chemical Complex.
ETD proposed the client to send a sample of the pipe with the damaged area (where the hole was observed) and approximately 20-25mm of length on either side of the weld (if the damage is on the weld)/ damaged area (if the damage is on the straight pipe).
The scope of the work carried out included:
- Visual examination of the pipe samples including internal and external appearance;
- Sectioning of the samples at the damaged area according to ASME standard for microstructure analysis;
- Metallographic examination of the pipe samples using optical microscopy to assess the condition of internal and external surfaces, to identify phase changes in microstructure / material degradation & precipitations and also to identify the damage mechanism(s);
- Taking photographic evidence of four micros in different directions covering all the cross sections from elevation, plan and side view angles;
- MIC (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion) analysis based on the findings of above metallographic investigations to determine the damage mechanism;
- A report covering results of metallographic investigation & MIC analysis for the pipe component.
If you are interested in ETD carrying out an MIC analysis on your plant, then please don’t hesitate to contact us.
