P91 Webinar
1.5 to 2 hours online FREE Webinar
Tuesday, 28 July 2026 (start time: 10.00 hrs – London time)

Use of ASME P91 steel in Power plant boilers and HRSGs –
Quality assurance when purchasing new steel/ components, microstructural issues such as aberrant/not fully martensitic microstructure, inspection, monitoring and life assessment.
The webinar is expected to last for just over 1.5 hours followed by discussion and question/answer session. The webinar will highlight the issues involved and some of the possible solutions.
Note: More detailed discussions, data and methodologies will be covered in a follow-on 2-days online Training Course to be delivered on 14-15 October this year. The Programme for this course will be announced/ published in early July 2026. This free Webinar and the paid Course in October are independent and not linked to each other.

Both Dr Robertson and Dr Shibli have worked for a couple of decades on P91 and P92 issues and their use in power plant boilers and HRSGs worldwide. They have written a number of guidelines, held training courses and organised Seminars/ Conferences in the UK, USA, Middle East, Asia, South Africa, Japan, Canada, USA and elsewhere on the issues involving the use of both P91 and P92 Steels and have also run in the recent past a ‘P91 Users Group’ for power plant members from many countries.
Now that the P91 use in power plants worldwide has seen many years of use problems have started raising their head again. These include creep cavitation development resulting in cracking, and failures due to a variety of other issues such as unsatisfactory welds and heat treatment, aberrant or abnormal microstructure which is partly or mostly non-martensitic, thermal fatigue problems especially in dissimilar metal welds during the present regime of flexible plant operation, inspection and monitoring difficulties, and a host of other issues. Therefore, there is a need to better understand these issues and learn about the potential solutions and remedial actions that may be available. Surprisingly, material suppliers are still some time supplying material which has not been properly heat treated and shows non-martensitic microstructure with the risk of early failure. In addition, new technologies and methodologies have been developed in the last decade or so to deal with such aberrant material more effectively.
ETD and its staff have been busy helping, supporting and guiding power plant manufacturers and operators with their P91 problems worldwide including their root cause failure analysis. The current and some of the on-going ETD projects include, for example, work on plants in Australia, Germany, Belgium, UK, Malaysia, Philippines, Cyprus, Canada and more.
